My Life Abroad

Working it out

It’s almost been three months since Christian and I moved to Lisbon and we have some exciting news to share! (pause for dramatic effect) We aren’t getting kicked out!!!

So for those who don’t know, Americans are allowed to travel in the Schengen region of Europe for 90 days on a “tourist visa”. After the 90 days are over, the visa expires and it’s necessary to leave and not re-enter the region for another 3 months. This law has put a TON of stress on us after moving here. Not only do I have to worry about not running out of money and applying for jobs, but I also have to get all of my ish figured out on a deadline. However, by the grace of God, Christian and I both found amazing jobs, and we are in the process of getting our visas/permits! Now it’s time for us to look forward to our paychecks and legal status!

Besides trying to become working legal residents, we’ve been exploring Lisbon, making new friends, and traveling on the weekends. For my birthday a few weeks ago, we took a 30 euro flight to Paris, and last weekend Christian and I celebrated our 1 yr anniversary of dating in Barcelona! Christmas and New Years are coming up in a few days and this will be my second year away from home, and Christian’s third year. Obviously we would prefer to be home with our friends and family during the holidays, but unfortunately money and time won’t allow. So instead we will celebrate Christmas in Lisbon together and spend NYE in a Ericeira (a beach town nearby) with our lovely new friends Hannah and Charlie from the UK.

So guys, it’s safe to say that WE MADE IT! We’re really living out here in Lisbon! 2018 has been one heck of a year. From China to America, and now Portugal. I’m really looking forward to 2019 and all the new adventures WOO-HOO!

Adeus!
